'Class 9F 2-10-0, 'Evening Star' designed by Robert A Riddles was the last steam train locomotive built by British Railways and was
unique in the class to be given a name. This class represented the first significant advance in British steam freight locomotive design since 1903, having coupled wheels of only 152cm in diameter, and was capable of
very fast running. Built primarily to move freight, 'Evening Star' was recorded at nearly 90mph on express passenger trains. Earmarked for preservation from the moment it was built in Swindon in 1960, it was taken
out of service after only five years. The name 'Evening Star' was chosen by a competition amongst Western Region Staff.'
This set is BRAND NEW and specially shrinked wrapped sealed by Hornby (Stops bits going adrift whilst in store, a great idea by Hornby), so it truly is untouched. It's only been out of the box to have the photo taken. The contents photos have reflection due to the shrink-wrapped poly. You really can't get newer than this!
